The Abbey Art Centre Digital Repository is a continually expanding online database that documents the findings of the research project

The Abbey Art Centre: Reassessing postwar Australian art, 1946–1956

The artworks, archival photographs, books, catalogues, documents and manuscript items detailed on these pages are sourced from multiple collections, both public and private. In some instances the items no longer exist and are known only from historical sources. The purpose of bringing these items together digitally is to fully document the activities of a group of mainly Australian artists who worked at the Abbey Arts Centre, London, 1946-56, and the British and European avant-garde in which they mixed. The Abbey Art Centre project throws light on this historically neglected art colony and recasts conventional understandings of post-WW2 Australian artists’s role in the European postwar period.
